Sanford Voters Pass City of Sanford Referendum
An amendment to amend the Sanford City Charter to provide for the filling of vacancies on the City Commission (including the office of the Mayor) passed by Sanford voters on November 3, 2020.
What does this mean?
- All vacancies on the City Commission will be filled by the votes of the residents either through a regularly scheduled City election or a special election called for that purpose.
- If the Mayor’s office is vacant, the Commission will determine who will act as the presiding officer until the Mayoral election.
- If a Commissioner position becomes vacant, the Commission MAY appoint an interim Commissioner to serve until the election is held, but that person would not be eligible to run for that Commissioner position.
