SEMINOLE COUNTY, FL (March 26, 2020)- Seminole County Office of Emergency Management has been under a Local State of Emergency (LSE) since March 2, 2020, and continues to monitor COVID-19. There are currently 39 confirmed cases in Seminole County, 36 of which are Seminole County residents. Updates can be found at prepareseminole.org and on the County’s social media channels.

PRESS CONFERENCE
Today, at 2:00 p.m., a press conference will be held at the Seminole County Public Safety Building to provide updates regarding preparedness and prevention of COVID-19 in Seminole County. Speakers include:
• Seminole County Chairman Jay Zembower
• Seminole County Office of Emergency Management Chief Administrator Alan Harris
• Florida Department of Health-Seminole Health Officer Donna Walsh
• Seminole County Sheriff Dennis Lemma

Press conferences will also be held at 2:00p.m. On Friday, March 27 and Monday, March 30.

All press conferences will be available live on SGTV (Spectrum 498, U-Verse 99, Prism 88, or SeminoleCountyFL.gov/SGTV) and streaming on Facebook Live. Press conferences will be made available for playback on YouTube and SGTV. SGTV will set up a press feed to allow social distancing for photographers. 

BOAT RAMPS & CANOE LAUNCHES
All Seminole County boat ramps and canoe launches remain open; Seminole County Sheriff’s Offices continually monitors boat ramps and sites that generally gather large congregations to ensure social distancing guidelines are practiced. Boat ramps will close only if crowd control is necessary. Currently, all 7 Seminole County parks with boat ramps or canoe launches are accessible, including:

• Cameron Wight Boat Ramp, Geneva
• CS Lee Park, Geneva
• Lake Jesup Park, Sanford
• Lake Monroe Wayside Park, Sanford
• Little Big Econ Canoe Launch, Oviedo
• Mullet Lake Park, Geneva
• Wilson’s Landing Park, Sanford

YARD WASTE COLLECTION
Due to the increased amount of yard waste placed at the curbside yesterday, Wednesday, March 25, 2020, collection crews were not able to complete all routes. Residents who did not receive service yesterday should leave their yard waste at the curb. Haulers will collect garbage as normally scheduled today, Thursday, March 26, 2020 and Friday, March 27, 2020.

Once the garbage routes are complete, the crews will collect any yard waste that was not collected on Wednesday, March 25, 2020. Please remember that specifically yard waste will only be collected from residents that subscribe to the weekly yard waste service and it must meet regulation. YARD WASTE REGULATIONS
Yard waste is vegetative matter resulting from yard and landscaping maintenance on your property and consists of tree branches, leaves, grass clippings, and palm fronds. Seminole County Solid Waste collection rules for yard waste entail the following:

• A total of fifteen (15) containers will be picked up each collection day, in any combination of bags, tied bundles or containers.
• Bundles can be no longer than four (4) feet or contain branches larger than four (4) inches in diameter.
• Bundles, bags, or containers can weight no more than 50 pounds each.

The hauler will leave behind containers exceeding the 50 gallon/50 pound limit, special waste (such as construction and/or demolition debris, household hazardous wastes, tires, etc.), or garbage mixed with yard waste with a tag indicating the reason.

TEMPORARY RECYCLING PROCEDURAL CHANGE
Seminole County residents should sort recyclables before placing curbside. Seminole County Solid Waste generally offers curbside sorting, but for the safety of collection crews, asks customers to self-sort.

Tissues and paper towels should be placed with regular household garbage.

Fibers should be sorted together. This includes:

• Pasteboard (i.e., cereal boxes, empty paper towel and toilet paper rolls, soda boxes, beer boxes, tissue boxes, gift boxes, pizza boxes and shoe boxes)
• Brown paper grocery bags (no wax, no wet strength material, no liners)
• Corrugated cardboard (flattened and cut down to fit inside the recycle bin)
• Newspaper, supplements, magazines and catalogs
• Box board, carrier stock, white and colored paper
• Telephone Books

Co-mingled containers should be sorted together. This includes:

• Plastic Containers #1-7 (#’s on bottom of containers) Remove all lids
• Glass bottles and jars (clear, green and brown) Remove all lids
• Aluminum cans
• Steel cans and tin household containers, such as food can

This does not include residents in the City of Oviedo or Lake Mary; Oviedo and Lake Mary as they are single-stream.

CONSUMER ALERT: WORKING FROM HOME CYBER CRIME
Attorney General Ashley Moody issued a Consumer Alert urging Floridians to guard against cybercrimes when working from home. While working from home helps to slow the spread of respiratory viruses, more opportunities are created for cybercriminals.

Ensure protection of sensitive customer information, trade secrets or other information while working remotely. Tips include:

• Use a secure internet connection
• Ensure all security software is updated and in working order
• Ensure your device’s operating system is updated regularly
• Create strong passwords, use different passwords across multiple websites and applications
• Limit the use of work devices only for work activities, use personal devices for leisure
• Lock work devices when not in use and never leaving them unattended
• Enable multi-factor authentication when available; some employers allow employees to provide an additional email address or phone number to receive codes to verify that the user is in fact the individual attempting to access an account
• Contact your IT support provider if unsolicited verification calls or codes are received; this is a sign that credentials were phished successfully, but login failed because of multi-factor authentication
